profile2Imani received her B.A. in English Literature magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. She then went on to earn her J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law. While at William Mitchell, Imani participated in the William E. McGee National Civil Rights Moot Court and she was selected to argue at the national competition. Imani also received the Student Award of Merit and the Women in Law scholarship. After graduation, Imani served as a law clerk for the Honorable Judge Lloyd Zimmerman in the Fourth Judicial District, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Imani was then hired as a staff attorney for the Legal Aid Society of Minneapolis. She was selected to run the housing repair project where she represented hundreds of indigent tenants enforcing their rights to livable housing through rent escrow actions, unlawful detainer defense, and emergency tenant remedy actions. Imani successfully argued a case at the Court of Appeals and did significant community outreach in her time at Legal Aid. Imani also worked with the Ramsey County Public Defender’s Office and handled many cases involving a variety of misdemeanor and gross misdemeanor offenses.

Imani is a partner at MJM and currently practices in the areas of estate planning, business law, and criminal defense.  She is also an adjunct professor at William Mitchell College of Law.  Imani is a senior speaker for the Islamic Resource Group. Imani was featured on National Public Radio, Minnesota Public Radio, and WCCO Radio. She was also featured in Minnesota Law and Politics magazine. Imani has taught several Continuing Legal Education courses on Islamic issues throughout the Twin Cities.
